Minutes from 19th January 2009
Progress with Leadership and 2009 Programme
A member's question.
The UKIPG Corporate Governance Group met at the Engineering Council UK on Monday 19th January 2009. The main topic was 'Risk and Governance', with a lively presentation and discussion lead by guest speaker Don Bawtree of BDO Stoy Hayward. The Minutes of that meeting are now available, when loggen in, under the 'Meetings' heading. The Powerpoint slides will be made available as soon as possible.
Following this major topic, attention turned to the future programme and leadership of the Group. The outgoing Chairman has been working with a number of members of the Group to develop a leadership team for the future. This is nearing a successful conclusion.
The meeting agreed some prospective meeting dates and also topics for speakers. Unfortunately, the first attempt at an April 2009 meeting failed. The possibility is now being reviewed for the week beginning 27th April (Monday to Thursday). Details will follow as soon as possible. Note that the minutes contain a request from the outgoing Chairman to contact her (contact details in minutes) to see how they can contribute. Kristina has been working hard at leaving the Group well set up to continue in the future; we must all thank her for her efforts.
Finally, for those in this field, Felicity Heather, the Registrar of the Farriers Registration Council (another UKIPG Member) has asked for some help. Her question follows:
"I am interested to know about other bodies experience in dealing with complaints about their own Council members Do they have explicit powers in their legislation to remove members for poor performance or conduct? Do they have a written procedure for dealing with complaints, and what form does it take?"
