CEPLIS Questionnaire on Professional Training

The UKIPG is an inter-professional member of CEPLIS, a Europe wide organisation for representative bodies for the professions.  It ranges across many member states and cultures, and across the different professions in Europe.  From time to time, one of its sub-groups gets a 'good idea'; currently it is about surveying the different national and professional requirements for what they describe as 'CPD'.

This is a variable concept in itself.  In our professional culture, 'CPD' is mostly about post-professional registration / qualification learning, in order to keep updated, extend current competence, move into new fields of work, develop from 'practitioner' into 'management' or 'business' roles, extend awareness of the wider emplyment, political and social context etc.   We tend to describe the transition process from graduating student to fully registered practitioner differently - it could be pre-registration training, initial professional development etc.  Both concepts are embedded in this questionnaire.

It would certainly help to glean some information on these topics across Europe, especially now that Directive 2005/36/EC is to be reviewed - and the need for CPD and / or revalidation has been mentioned as a possible area for development.  Inevitably, documents produced by an ad hoc group of different languages and cultures will contain some confusing descriptions.  The UKIPG Secretary was at the final meeting of the WP and got a feel for what was being intended - and indeed got an extra question inserted.

The Questionnaire circulated here has therefore been 'doctored' a little - in 'UKIPG blue' - hopefully to reduce some ambiguities, at least in the UK data.  The document is in 'Word' so that you can type in answers if you wish; alternatively print, write and then scan, and return to the UKIPG Secretary by e-mail, have having 'saved as' in a changed document name.  Please aim to reply by 29th March 2010.

If you cannot answer all of it, then please do what you can.  We are not looking for deeply researched data - but a quick snapshot.  There may be a more focused look at a few selected professions when this first overview survey is reviewed.
