For some time, I have been trying to get a meeting with the top level of NARIC regarding the special position of professionally-relevant academic qualifications (especially where their 'title' looks like a 'bachelors' but is the outcome of a 5-year very intensive course) or where the 'professional qualification' itself has a much higher 'academic equivalence' than an academic qualification which underpins it (as for many 'Chartered' ones).
I know that some organisations within UKIPG have managed to resolve issues unilaterally with NARIC; even so, their experience would be useful. Moreover, subsequent case-work might not always be consistent if the NARIC procedures are not 'watertight'. Nowadays, the outputs from NARIC are treated as more than 'advice' - they are taken as authoritative in relation to migration cases. So, in the interests both of fairness to individuals and to UK professional standards, NARIC must get this right.
I have also spoken to Dorothy Wood of ACCA, who represented us at a recent NARIC QSG meeting in lieu of Katrina; she confirms that both NARIC, and other bodies represented at QSG, want to see the complex 'professions issues' clarified.
Cloud Bai-Yun, the CEO of NARIC, has offered to come to London on Monday 7th September to meet us. I can also book a meeting room on that date at 246 High Holborn. At present, I have booked it for all day. Could you please confirm to UKIPG Secretary as soon as possible whether you could be represented on that date and whether you prefer a 1100 or a 1400 meeting. Note that we will already have had the routine FE&HEWP meeting on Tuesday 1st Sept to get our ideas straight.
