Monday 7th September at 1400

In response to several requests, in July the UKIPG Secretary set about organising a meeting with the management of NARIC to deal with a number of issues raised initially by members of UKIPG, and later within the NARIC Quality Standards Group (QSG) - at which UKIPG is represented by Dorothy Wood of ACCA. We eventually settled on 1400 on Monday 7th September at the offices of the Engineering Council uk, 2nd Floor, 246 High Holborn, London W1V 7EX.
At the NARIC QSG, it became obvious that NARIC was trying to get to grips with 'professional qualifications', with their additional elements over and above the their 'academic base level'. So NARIC was as keen to involve us in that, as we were to ask NARIC questions about the methodology, consistency and reliability of their casework in assessing the comparative levels of overseas specialist qualifications. There were further issues arising from the delegation of Directive 2005/36/EC casework from the former DIUS (now presumably BIS) to NARIC, and their 'Europe Open for the Professions' web-site.
We agreed to use the opportunity on this Tuesday's FE&HEWP to refine our thinking and finalise a draft Agenda to share with NARIC; this has been done. Part of the preparation was the development of a background paper 'Understanding Professional Qualifications' for use at both FE&HEWP and at the meeting with NARIC. Finally, in response to the earlier e-mails, a List has been compiled of those nominated to attend the meeting so far.
Just in case there are people out there who missed the earlier notifications during the Summer recess, this message is going to three UKIPG E-Mailing Lists, viz: 'Main Group', 'FE&HEWP' and 'International and European'. Further attendees can be accommodated, but it would help to smooth admission to the building if you could let the UKIPG Secretary know by e-mail.
